FAF Lodges Formal Complaint with CAF and FIFA After Nigeria Match

Following the Algerian national team’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has issued a statement addressing supporters, urging unity and solidarity around the national team during its rebuilding phase.

The FAF emphasized that the players and technical staff demonstrated commitment and seriousness throughout the tournament, stressing the need for appreciation and encouragement from the national football family, especially with important upcoming competitions, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, requiring calm and collective support.

However, the statement also addressed the controversial refereeing decisions in the recent match, which sparked widespread dissatisfaction and raised questions about the integrity of African refereeing. The FAF believes these errors do not serve the image of African football internationally.

DZWatch has learned that the Federation has sent a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), demanding an investigation to clarify what happened and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable regulations.

The statement concluded by affirming that the FAF will continue its efforts steadily and persistently, utilizing all human, technical, and organizational capabilities, to ensure that the national team remains among the best and a source of pride for Algerian youth. The Federation also thanked all supporters, media outlets, and public authorities for their support throughout the competition.

In closing, the Algerian Football Federation reiterated its full confidence in the team, the technical staff, and all those working to develop national football. The FAF is committed to addressing the concerns raised and ensuring fair play in future competitions.

The FAF will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
