Algiers – Several Algerian provinces are bracing for heavy snowfall starting this Saturday, according to a special weather alert issued today. The National Meteorology Office has issued a Level 2 warning, indicating significant weather disturbances are anticipated.
The alert forecasts substantial snowfall in areas above 1000 meters in altitude, commencing Saturday night and continuing through Sunday. The anticipated snowfall accumulation is projected to range between 10 and 50 centimeters in the provinces of Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Laghouat, and Djelfa. This warning is valid from 9:00 PM Saturday until noon on Sunday.
A separate alert indicates snowfall for areas between 1000 and 1200 meters above sea level, with similar accumulations of 10 to 50 centimeters expected. This alert is in effect from Saturday midday until 6:00 AM Sunday. Provinces affected by this alert include Bechar, Tlemcen, Naama, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, and El Bayadh.
Citizens, particularly those residing in mountainous regions and those using mountain roads, are urged to exercise extreme caution. The National Meteorology Office advises the public to stay informed by monitoring weather forecasts and official warnings for any updates regarding the evolving weather situation throughout the weekend.
