US Ambassador Bids Farewell to Algeria with Heartfelt Message

United States Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, has issued a moving farewell message as her tenure in the country comes to an end. The message, shared on the official Facebook page of the U.S. Embassy in Algeria, reflects on her deep connection with the Algerian people and the enduring bonds forged during her time in the nation.

Ambassador Aubin recalled her initial arrival in Algeria in 2011 as Deputy Chief of Mission, noting, “I first came to Algeria in 2011 as Deputy Chief of Mission and got to know this country and built relationships that continue to this day.” She added, “When I returned as Ambassador in 2022, I felt like I was returning to a place I knew well. I was very happy to rekindle old friendships and make new friends in this country, so rich in history and with the most wonderful people who leave a lasting impression on you.”

The Ambassador spoke fondly of her experiences, saying, “I walked the streets of Algeria’s old cities, shared meals in family homes, and experienced moments of great joy and happiness here. I stood with Algerians in the face of hardship and challenges.” She emphasized that “Algeria is a place where you remember that diplomacy is not just about politics, but it is really all about people.”

“Over the past four years, we have worked together to strengthen our partnership in many areas, from economic and security cooperation to supporting education, the arts, and cultural exchange. But what I will miss most are the people: their generosity, warmth, and friendship,” Ambassador Aubin stated.

In closing, the Ambassador shared a personal note: “Daniel, my husband, and I will carry Algeria in our hearts and memories and in our gratitude. As I leave, I do so with gratitude and pride, and with confidence that this relationship will endure. Thank you very much. Yaatikoum Essaha (May God give you health).”

Ambassador Aubin’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in U.S.-Algerian relations, leaving behind a legacy of strengthened ties and mutual respect. The embassy has not yet announced a successor.
