Constantine, Algeria – The 71st anniversary of the martyrdom of the iconic hero Didouche Mourad was commemorated today in a solemn ceremony. The Minister of Veterans Affairs, Abdelmalek Tachefift, accompanied by the Governor of Constantine, Abdelkhalek Sayouda, and in the presence of the Governor of Skikda, Said Akhrouf, visited the memorial dedicated to Didouche Mourad in Oued Boukerker, in the municipality of Zighoud Youcef. This location marks the site where the valiant hero and a number of his comrades fell in battle.
The Minister’s visit was part of the national observance honoring Didouche Mourad (1927-1955), a pivotal figure in Algeria’s struggle for independence. The ceremony included the raising of the national flag and the laying of a wreath at the memorial. Prayers were recited in remembrance of the martyr and all those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom.

Following the memorial ceremony, the delegation visited the original headquarters of the Wilaya II command. There, they received detailed explanations regarding the life and career of Didouche Mourad and other leaders of Wilaya II, through exhibits organized for the occasion. The visit highlighted the strategic importance of the region during the Algerian War and the crucial role played by the leaders who operated from that location.
