Senegal Coach Voices Concerns Over AFCON Organization

Senegal’s national team coach, Pape Thiaw, has expressed concerns regarding the organizational aspects surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco. During a press conference held in Rabat, Thiaw highlighted difficulties faced by the Senegalese delegation, the ‘Lions of Teranga,’ prior to the final match. He described the arrival of players and security personnel at the Rabat train station as a situation involving ‘real danger.’

Thiaw emphasized that his comments were focused solely on comparing organizational methods, and not intended as a reflection on the Moroccan national team or its supporters. He stated that the organization witnessed during the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria was significantly smoother and more efficient.

“The focus of the team remains firmly on the final, with the aim of winning the cup and bringing joy to the Senegalese people,” Thiaw stated. He declined to be drawn into further debate regarding the criticisms of the organization, explaining that his intention was to preserve the image of African football.
