Algiers – National team coach Vladimir Petkovic has formally requested that two friendly matches be scheduled during the FIFA international window in March, DZWatch has learned. This move signals serious preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
DZWatch sources indicate that the German Football Association (DFB) has approached the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) regarding the possibility of a friendly match between the two national teams. A potential date of March 30th in Stuttgart has been suggested, pending final confirmation in the coming weeks.
Facing Die Mannschaft presents a strategically sound option for Algeria. Austria, a potential opponent in the World Cup, employs a tactical approach similar to the German school, emphasizing high pressing and rapid transitions. A match against Germany would thus serve as a valuable benchmark.
Furthermore, Petkovic is keen to secure a second friendly against a Latin American nation. This aims to expose his players to diverse playing styles, preparing them for potential encounters with formidable teams like Argentina later on.
The coaching staff is currently evaluating various proposals before making a final decision on the opponents for these crucial preparatory matches. The goal is to ensure the team is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Germany: A Tactical Choice for Algeria
A match against Germany transcends a mere friendly; it represents a significant tactical test for Vladimir Petkovic. Given Austria’s German-influenced style, facing Germany offers an ideal opportunity to analyze strengths and weaknesses, allowing for necessary adjustments before the global stage.
Latin American Friendly to Complete Preparations
Alongside the European friendly, Petkovic has requested a second match against a Latin American team during the same international break. The objective is clear: to acclimate players to tactical and physical diversity, especially considering the possibility of facing teams from different footballing backgrounds in the World Cup, such as Argentina. The coaching staff is currently reviewing several suggestions in coordination with the FAF.
