Annaba, Algeria – A tragic incident in Annaba has claimed the lives of a young woman and a child due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The victims were found in their family home in the El Guerraya neighborhood of Sidi Amar, located within the El Hadjar district.
Civil Protection services responded to an emergency call at approximately 9:55 AM local time, reporting a suspected case of asphyxiation. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a 26-year-old woman and a two-year-old child deceased, the victims of inhaling toxic fumes. Preliminary investigations suggest the carbon monoxide emanated from a faulty heating appliance within the residence.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the morgue at the local hospital for further examination. Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with improperly maintained heating systems. Local officials are once again urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when using heating appliances, emphasizing the critical importance of ensuring adequate ventilation in all homes. Poor ventilation can lead to a build-up of carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas that can be fatal.
Residents are advised to regularly inspect and maintain their heating systems, use carbon monoxide detectors, and ensure proper airflow throughout their homes, especially during the colder months. Taking these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of similar tragedies.
