Syrian Army Targeted in Raqqa After Ceasefire Announcement

Tensions have flared in the northern Raqqa countryside following reported attacks on Syrian Army positions by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The incidents, which allegedly involved rocket barrages and an ambush on a military convoy, occurred just hours after a ceasefire agreement was announced.

According to reports, a small Syrian Army convoy was subjected to intense gunfire while moving from the northern Raqqa countryside towards the city of Raqqa, near the village of al-Abara on the Tel Abyad-Raqqa road. The ambush reportedly resulted in casualties within the Syrian Army, though official details remain unconfirmed.

Sources indicate that SDF elements, positioned in government buildings in the area, also launched direct attacks on Syrian Army locations near the city of Ain Issa using rocket launchers. These attacks reportedly caused injuries among government forces.

The developments come amid heightened tensions and a state of alert between the two sides, raising concerns about a potential escalation in this volatile region of northern Syria. The area stretching from Ain Issa south of Tel Abyad, and along the Raqqa-Tel Abyad road to the north, is part of the strategic M4 highway, a route that has seen repeated clashes between the two sides in recent years.

While the SDF reportedly maintains control over sections of the highway and refuses to disarm, the Syrian Army maintains its positions in the surrounding area, remaining on high alert for any further developments. The situation remains fluid, with both sides exercising caution and no immediate signs of de-escalation.

DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation closely. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
