In a significant move to recognize media professionals, Algerian Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laqab, announced the establishment of two new awards – one for Media Leadership targeting institutions, and another for Media Excellence aimed at journalists who have excelled in their programs , Algerian Media Awards.
During the opening of the seminar “Media and Current Challenges” on the occasion of the National Press Day, held at the International Conference Center, Laqab committed to honoring journalists and their families as a tradition of gratitude for their contributions to the profession.
Laqab highlighted that the media sector has fulfilled the commitments made by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his election campaign regarding the media, following the issuance of new laws. He expressed confidence that President Tebboune will continue to work towards achieving further gains for the media.
Moreover, Laqab paid tribute to Palestinian journalists who lost their lives in the recent aggressive attacks on the Gaza Strip, condemning the targeting of over 54 media professionals by the occupation forces.
