The Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Faisal Ben Taleb, revealed that as of October 31, there were 4,543 job applications from persons with disabilities, with 388 successful placements in various sectors. Ben Taleb highlighted the public employment service’s efforts in facilitating services for persons with disabilities. An important step in this direction is the framework agreement between the Labor sector and the Youth and Sports sector. This agreement aims to foster cooperation and coordination in promoting sports in the workplace and supporting youth initiatives in sports and youth sectors, ensuring that institutions under their purview work towards the objectives of both sectors.

The government has implemented organizational measures to streamline the employment of this demographic in public and private institutions and administrations. Notably, employment advisors have been trained in sign language to provide optimal support to persons with disabilities.

To further improve accessibility, most entrances to sector facilities have been equipped with ramps, and ground-level offices at the National Employment Agency have been designated for serving persons with disabilities. Additionally, Braille has been adopted in various informational documents.

Ben Taleb also noted that job seekers with disabilities have benefited from unemployment grants as a measure to support them in finding employment. As of November 30, 2023, 3,375 individuals have availed of this benefit.

In terms of social security, the Labor Minister affirmed that persons with disabilities have easier access to social security, especially for non-active individuals who benefit from social coverage at a reduced contribution rate subsidized by the state. This coverage includes the cost of prosthetics and their accessories, managed by social security funds through agreements with the National Office for Prosthetic Devices for the Disabled and relevant institutions.

Concluding his statement, Ben Taleb emphasized that achieving the goals of this agreement prepared by the sectors will enhance the care of elite athletes with disabilities who have and will continue to honor Algeria in international sports events, Employment and Social Support for Persons with Disabilities in Algeria
