Communication Ministry Issues Transparency Warning to Media

Algiers, January 19, 2026 – The Ministry of Communication has issued a stern warning to media outlets, emphasizing the absolute necessity of adhering to regulations that uphold transparency, responsibility, and the highest standards of journalistic ethics.

In a statement released today, the Ministry expressed concern over the persistent practice of certain media organizations, across various platforms, publishing content without identifying the authors or using pseudonyms. This, the statement asserts, constitutes a blatant violation of the Organic Law on Information No. 14-23, particularly Article 21 of Chapter Five, which concerns the journalistic profession and its ethical code.

“Given the powers vested in it by law, the Ministry of Communication underscores the imperative of full and immediate compliance with these provisions, which enshrine the values of transparency and accountability, and respect the requirements of professionalism and journalistic ethics,” the statement declared.

The Ministry further cautioned that any violation of these regulations would expose the perpetrators to the legal consequences stipulated by law. The statement serves as a clear signal that the government intends to enforce existing media laws rigorously, ensuring greater accountability within the Algerian media landscape.

The move comes amid ongoing discussions about media reform and the role of journalism in promoting a more informed and transparent society. The Ministry’s warning is likely to spark further debate within the industry and among the public regarding the balance between freedom of expression and responsible reporting.
