Athens, January 20, 2026 – Algeria and Greece have solidified their bilateral relations through the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding, signaling a commitment to enhanced cooperation across various sectors.
The third session of the Algerian-Greek Joint Committee, held in Athens, served as the platform for these significant developments. The Algerian delegation was led by Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, while the Greek side was headed by Harry Theocharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Economic Diplomacy and Promotion.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss and strengthen cooperation between the two nations in areas of mutual interest. Key sectors highlighted included energy, renewable energy, justice, agriculture, culture, tourism, communication, modern technologies, startups, sports, and transportation. Discussions also encompassed current international and regional issues, as well as the partnership between Algeria and the European Union, and multilateral cooperation and coordination.
The culmination of the session was the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding covering diplomatic training, sports, communication, national archives, and air services. These agreements aim to foster greater collaboration and exchange between Algeria and Greece in these vital domains.
In addition to the Joint Committee session, the Algerian Secretary of State held a series of bilateral meetings with members of the Greek government and high-ranking officials. These meetings allowed for in-depth consultations and exchange of views on various aspects of cooperation between the two countries, further solidifying the partnership between Algeria and Greece.
