US Embassy Clarifies B1/B2 Visa Payment Requirements

The United States Embassy in Algiers has issued a clarification regarding the payment process for the B1/B2 visa (business or tourism purposes). The Embassy is urging qualified applicants to refrain from paying any bond, potentially up to $15,000 USD, before attending their consular interview.

In a statement released on its official Facebook page, the Embassy addressed concerns that some Algerian applicants may be required to pay a refundable bond of up to $15,000 before a visa can be issued, a policy slated to potentially begin on January 21, 2026. However, the Embassy emphasized that making an advance payment does not, in any way, guarantee visa approval.

The Embassy further explained that applicants who are required to pay the bond will be directly informed following their interview by a consular officer. This officer will provide them with an official and direct link to the payment website (pay.gov), along with the necessary instructions to complete the transaction in a secure and official manner.

The U.S. Embassy reiterated that any attempt to make a payment before the scheduled interview is considered unofficial and could potentially expose the applicant to risks. The Embassy strongly advises all applicants to adhere strictly to the official instructions provided to avoid any complications. Applicants should only proceed with payment if explicitly instructed to do so by a consular official after the interview.

This clarification aims to ensure a transparent and secure visa application process for all Algerian citizens seeking to travel to the United States for business or tourism.
