Algiers, January 21, 2026 – A central pharmacy for the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has been established, marking a significant step towards bolstering the military’s healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the independent supply of medical resources.
The establishment of the “Central Pharmacy of the Army” (CPA), as it will be known, was formalized by Presidential Decree 26-06, published in the Official Gazette. This new entity, a public institution of an administrative nature, will possess both legal personality and financial autonomy.
The CPA will operate under the direct supervision of the Minister of National Defense, with delegated authority vested in the Central Director of Military Health Services. Headquartered in the capital, Algiers, the pharmacy has the authority to establish branches across the country as needed.
Its mandate extends beyond simple storage to encompass crucial roles within the defense system. The CPA is tasked with ensuring the supply of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment to military hospitals and healthcare facilities. Quality control of procured or produced materials, whether through its own means or via accredited national regulatory bodies, is also a key responsibility.
The decree also empowers the CPA to produce certain pharmaceutical products and medical supplies independently, reducing reliance on imports. It will also manage drug and supply stocks on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense, regularly updating its inventories.
Furthermore, the CPA will contribute to the advancement of scientific and technical research in the field of pharmacy. It will also be responsible for the ongoing training and professional development of military and civilian personnel working within this sensitive sector. Cooperation and exchange programs with national and international institutions and organizations are also authorized, aligning with the regulations established within the Ministry of National Defense. This will ensure the CPA remains at the forefront of developments in military pharmaceutical science.
This strategic initiative underscores the Algerian government’s commitment to strengthening the ANP’s capabilities and ensuring the well-being of its personnel.
