Algeria and Chad Explore Cement Industry Collaboration

Algeria and Chad are exploring avenues to bolster cooperation in the cement industry. Discussions took place on Wednesday in N’Djamena between the Algerian Minister of Industry, Yahya Bachir, and the Chadian Minister of Trade and Industry, Matthieu Guibolo Fanga, on the sidelines of the International Exhibition of Mines, Quarries, and Hydrocarbons ‘SIMICA Chad 2026’.

The meeting, attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, Faisal Djauti, and several officials from both countries, follows a preliminary meeting held in Algiers last December. The focus was on identifying strategies to develop Chad’s cement industry.

Options considered include implementing structured industrial projects in the medium term and adopting practical, rapid solutions to meet immediate needs. The discussions highlighted the gap between current cement consumption in Chad and the demands of development and construction projects.

The possibility of establishing clinker grinding units, supported by Algerian expertise and supplied with raw materials from Algeria, was also explored. This initiative aims to meet the needs of the Chadian market and support the development of the local cement sector.

Both parties reaffirmed the importance of leveraging Algeria’s experience in the cement and building materials industry, particularly through the GICA Group, which possesses significant production capacity, human resources, and extensive expertise.

The two sides agreed to establish a memorandum of understanding outlining the general framework for cooperation. This agreement will facilitate deeper technical discussions and the implementation of industrial partnership projects, aimed at activating joint ventures that serve the mutual interests of both countries and contribute to industrial development.
