Algiers – The United States Embassy in Algiers has issued an important advisory for Algerian citizens applying for B1/B2 visas (business and tourism). The embassy is urging applicants to refrain from making any bond payments before attending their consular interview.
In a statement released today, the embassy clarified that, starting January 21, 2026, a refundable bond payment of up to $15,000 USD may be required from certain qualified applicants. However, this payment is only due after the consular interview has been conducted and before the visa is issued, not beforehand as some reports have suggested.
Consular officials emphasized that this procedure does not apply to all applicants. It is limited to specific cases that are evaluated based on established legal and administrative criteria. The embassy stressed that any request for this bond payment will be made officially and directly by the embassy itself, and not through intermediaries or unauthorized entities.
This clarification aims to prevent fraud and misunderstandings, and to ensure transparency in the visa application process. The U.S. Embassy urges applicants to rely solely on information issued through official channels and to avoid unsubstantiated news and rumors. Applicants are encouraged to consult the embassy’s official website for the most up-to-date information on visa requirements and procedures.
