RND Condemns French Media Smear Campaign Against Algeria

The National Democratic Rally (RND) has issued a strongly worded statement denouncing what it describes as a smear campaign by a French public broadcaster. The party expressed its surprise and dismay at the content and timing of a program presented as an ‘investigative report’.

The RND asserts that the broadcast was nothing more than a blatant exercise in political defamation, falsely disguised as journalism, to justify a hostile and outdated narrative. The party criticized the program’s reliance on individuals known for their animosity towards Algeria and their association with movements that have lost all political and moral legitimacy.

The statement emphasized that Algeria, with its history, institutions, and sovereign choices, is defined from within its borders. It cannot be judged by standards granted or withdrawn by media platforms that habitually conflate professional investigation with directed propaganda, and news with misrepresentation.

The RND highlighted the timing of the broadcast, coinciding with the Algerian Parliament’s ratification of a law criminalizing colonialism, as evidence of a deliberate attempt to revive old prejudices. It accused certain circles of seeking to resurrect a narrative that has been overtaken by events since the end of the colonial era, leaving its proponents with nothing but the regurgitation of hatred cloaked in ‘news’ formats.

The party further stated that the trivialization of Algerian state symbols by some elements within the French media reflects a crisis of professional and ethical standards. It argued that such behavior, while claiming independence, feeds on provocation and sensationalism.

The RND reaffirmed that Algeria is a sovereign nation, making its decisions within its constitutional institutions, not in foreign newsrooms. It stressed that national sovereignty is not up for debate and will not be drawn into futile arguments. Algeria does not need ‘certificates of good conduct’ and is not governed by pre-independence mentalities. Relations between countries are built on mutual respect and equality, not on media sensationalism or the settling of old scores.

The party asserted that Algeria is now an active player on the international stage, not a mere subject. Those who fail to grasp this shift will remain trapped in their illusions. Algeria is not fodder for media consumption or an arena for settling internal or external accounts.

The RND expressed its regret at what it called the political triviality of those who have become beholden to foreign interests and sold their consciences for temporary roles in smear campaigns. It concluded by stating that such individuals represent only themselves and that those who compromise their homeland will reap only isolation and oblivion.
