Algerian Parties Denounce French Media’s ‘Hostile’ Campaigns

Algiers – Several Algerian political parties have strongly condemned what they describe as hostile media campaigns waged by French outlets against Algeria’s national sovereignty. The ruling FLN party (National Liberation Front) issued a statement expressing its deep disapproval of what it called a systematic campaign by French public media against Algeria, deeming such practices unacceptable and a clear indication of involvement in a propaganda war fueled by far-right narratives.

The FLN asserted that the content broadcast by France Télévisions regarding Algeria has ceased to be journalism, transforming into a tool for misleading public opinion and distorting facts. The party accused the French public service broadcaster of disseminating false information aimed at undermining Algeria’s sovereignty and institutions, labeling this media bias as a moral and professional bankruptcy that places the channel in a position of open hostility towards an independent and sovereign state.

The FLN emphasized that the channel has deviated from basic professional standards, becoming an instrument for settling political scores. It claimed that this media deviation reflects the panic and confusion within certain French circles that have not yet come to terms with the reality of a modern Algeria, a state that rejects guardianship or dictates. The FLN held French institutions fully politically and morally responsible for this decline, asserting that attempts at defamation and media blackmail will not weaken Algeria but will instead strengthen its resolve and adherence to its sovereignty. The party concluded its statement by reiterating its full support for the political leadership, affirming that Algeria will not be intimidated by disinformation campaigns, regardless of the intensity of the media outcry.

In a similar vein, the RND party (National Democratic Rally) issued a statement expressing its surprise and strong disapproval of content broadcast by a French public channel within a program presented as an investigative report, describing it as a blatant exercise in political defamation. The RND indicated that this work attempted to justify a hostile discourse that is out of sync with the times and facts, by hosting figures known for their animosity towards Algeria and their association with paths that have lost all political or moral legitimacy. The party affirmed that Algeria, with its history, institutions, and sovereign choices, is not defined from outside its borders and is not measured by legitimacies granted by media platforms that have become accustomed to confusing professional investigation with directed propaganda.
