Algerian Pilgrims to See Reduced Hajj Costs in 2026

Algiers – In a move welcomed by many, the Algerian government has announced a significant reduction in Hajj pilgrimage costs for the year 2026. The announcement came following a Council of Ministers meeting presided over by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, where key social and economic issues were discussed.

President Tebboune approved a substantial subsidy aimed at easing the financial burden on Algerian pilgrims. This subsidy will reduce the total cost of the Hajj from 92 million centimes to 82 million centimes, a decrease of 10 million centimes. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens and facilitating their religious obligations.

The President emphasized the importance of rigorous monitoring and implementation of the Council’s decisions. He directed the Prime Minister to ensure that these policies are effectively translated into tangible results on the ground.

Beyond the Hajj cost reduction, the Council of Ministers also addressed key economic priorities. President Tebboune instructed officials to accelerate the launch of the zinc and lead mine project in Oued Amizour, scheduled for March 2026. This project is expected to create numerous employment opportunities and contribute significantly to local development and the national economy.

Furthermore, President Tebboune extended his congratulations to the national football team and their coach, Vladimir Petkovic, wishing them success in the upcoming World Cup. He also expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support of Algerian fans, both at home and abroad, particularly acknowledging the diaspora who traveled from around the globe to cheer on the national team during the Africa Cup of Nations.
