CAF Faces Credibility Test After 2025 AFCON Final: Analyst

Controversy surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final continues to simmer, with prominent Algerian analyst Hafid Derradji asserting that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) faces a critical test of its credibility. Derradji’s comments come amidst growing scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the climactic match.

Derradji highlighted recent statements made by the President of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, regarding behind-the-scenes events and conditions surrounding the final. According to Derradji, these statements represent a “serious precedent” that threatens the image and integrity of the continental competition.

“CAF is now at a crossroads,” Derradji stated. “The handling of this situation will determine whether the organization can maintain the trust of fans and stakeholders across the continent.”

The analyst called for a transparent and thorough investigation by CAF, suggesting the involvement of FIFA to ensure impartiality and reliability. He emphasized the need for complete transparency to address the concerns raised and safeguard the reputation of African football.

“A credible investigation is paramount to restore faith in the fairness of the competition,” Derradji noted. “The future of African football depends on our ability to address these issues head-on.”

While advocating for an investigation, Derradji also acknowledged the sporting outcome of the match. He affirmed that Senegal’s victory and subsequent title are legitimate, following the resumption of the game and the established procedures of such competitions. He emphasized that calls for investigation are for the sake of ensuring fair practices in the future.

Derradji concluded by stressing the urgent need for transparency and clarity in African football to maintain the confidence of fans and those involved in the sport. He argued that addressing such issues seriously is the only way to protect the image of continental competitions in the future. “The integrity of African football must be protected at all costs,” he stated.
