Chelghoum Laid, Mila Province – A family of three was rescued from a near-fatal carbon monoxide poisoning incident in the city of Chelghoum Laid earlier today. The incident highlights the ongoing dangers of faulty heating appliances, particularly during the colder months.
According to local Civil Protection services, they received a distress call around 10:00 AM reporting a possible gas leak at a residence in the Djamaa Lakhdar neighborhood. Upon arrival, rescue workers discovered three members of a family suffering from symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning, including nausea and vomiting.
Initial investigations suggest that a gas heater operating on city gas lines was the source of the leak. The victims were immediately administered first aid at the scene before being transported to the emergency medical services at Chelghoum Laid for further treatment. Sources indicate their condition is currently stable.
Carbon monoxide poisoning remains a significant public health concern, especially during winter when heating systems are in constant use. Civil Protection officials are renewing their calls for citizens to take preventative measures to avoid such incidents. These measures include ensuring proper ventilation in homes, regularly inspecting heating appliances for defects, and installing carbon monoxide detectors.
Carbon monoxide is often referred to as the “silent killer” because it is odorless and colorless, making it difficult to detect without specialized equipment. DZWatch urges all residents to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families from this serious threat.
