School Suspended in Several Algerian Provinces Due to Severe Weather

Algiers, January 27, 2026 – Classes have been suspended in numerous provinces across Algeria for Wednesday, January 28th, and Thursday, January 29th, due to an impending severe weather event. The Ministry of Education made the announcement today, citing an urgent communication from the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation.

The Ministry of Interior issued a special weather bulletin warning of strong winds, potentially reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. In response to this warning, educational institutions at all levels will be closed in the following provinces:

Oran, Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Mascara, Relizane, Naama, El Bayadh, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Ain Defla, Blida, Medea, Bouira, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, Mila, Guelma, Oum El Bouaghi, Khenchela, Tebessa, Biskra, M’Sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, Ouled Djellal, Souk Ahras, Batna, and Constantine.
