Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, emphasized the necessity of establishing a clear medium- and long-term strategy to address the challenges facing culture in light of global changes. She touched upon the visit of American YouTuber Ishowspeed, which she considered an indicator that “the world is changing significantly.” This statement was made during an evaluation meeting she chaired on Sunday with provincial directors and sector-affiliated institutions at the Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture in Algiers.
Bendouda explained that “the world is constantly shifting toward the increasing dominance of virtual spaces and artificial intelligence; therefore, we can never engage in these changes without a smart and creative understanding of these extraordinary scientific, technological, and cultural breakthroughs.”
She added: “There are many cultural centers, libraries, theaters, palaces of culture, and music institutes, as well as heritage restoration efforts, but despite all this effort, cultural activities have remained confined within routine events that lack initiative, innovation, and the spirit of renewal and creativity.”
The minister clarified that the diagnosis she presented today during the evaluation meeting regarding the reality of the culture and arts sector stems from “a careful reading and deep analysis of the scene and the status of institutions, as well as statistics and indicators that all call for a new approach, drawing lessons, and a different framing of the cultural project.”
She stressed that cultural action is not merely an entertainment show or passing amusement, but rather the true foundation of the human entity, building awareness, and developing intelligence and the capacity for innovation and creativity.
