Ben Douda Holds Participatory Meeting with Cinema Professionals

The Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, received a number of cinema professionals at the ministry’s headquarters as part of the third in a series of participatory meetings. The session was dedicated to discussing the various challenges facing the national cinematographic industry and its development prospects.

According to a statement from the ministry, attendees discussed the importance of documentary film as one of the most prominent forms of cinematic expression. They highlighted its role in monitoring social reality, preserving collective memory, and keeping pace with societal transformations.

The meeting also emphasized the necessity of adopting an integrated approach in the future that combines commercial cinema and auteur cinema. This strategy aims to drive the economic growth of Algerian cinema while maintaining public taste and elevating the artistic and aesthetic value of cinematic works.

Participants discussed innovative models for the utilization of cinema halls, particularly by opening the field to qualified private operators under strict specifications. This approach is intended to ensure management quality and activity sustainability, contributing to an economic environment that fosters the development of a sustainable national film industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister affirmed the ministry’s readiness to support and accompany these initiatives to enhance cultural participation and expand the cinematic audience base.

This meeting followed a previous session that addressed several common themes, most notably directing cinematic production toward the audience and studying cinematic demand as a fundamental entry point for creating a sustainable dynamic between cinematic works and viewers. It was also stressed that films must reflect the cultural, linguistic, and identity diversity of Algerian society, while encouraging support for debut productions and short films as platforms for experimentation and the discovery of new talent.
