Launch of a major maintenance operation for the highway network

The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Kallaoui, has issued instructions to launch all projects included in the sector’s program for 2026, most notably a major maintenance operation for the national highway network starting next week.

A ministry statement indicated that these instructions were issued during a working meeting chaired by the minister, dedicated to following up on the sector’s 2026 action plan and evaluating the progress of ongoing structural projects while launching others.

Regarding the maintenance of the highway and national road networks, the minister ordered the launch of a large-scale maintenance operation. The first phase is set to begin next week on the second bypass of the capital, before being expanded nationwide, particularly on the major axes connecting the north and south of the country.

In this regard, Kallaoui emphasized the necessity of accelerating the completion of projects registered in Algiers and ensuring their delivery within the specified deadlines, while intensifying continuous field monitoring by central and decentralized structures.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring precise follow-up on projects included in the supplementary program for the provinces of Djelfa, Khenchela, and Tissemsilt, and preparing detailed reports on all projects benefiting these provinces.

The minister further called for the simultaneous launch of all projects included in the 2026 sector program across all provinces of the country. This includes preparing a specific action plan for monitoring structural projects and signing commitment and performance contracts with public works directors to evaluate their performance according to specific indicators.

Kallaoui ordered that project delivery deadlines be precisely determined and called for efforts to overcome field obstacles, particularly in the southern provinces.
