The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, announced the opening of a workshop within the ministry to prepare a study on the administrative reorganization of the Algiers province.
During an oral questions session at the Council of the Nation on Thursday, the Minister revealed the launch of a workshop to draft a presidential decree concerning the administrative reorganization of Algiers. This initiative aims to correct imbalances and bring the administration closer to citizens more effectively.
Sayoud emphasized that the project seeks to address discrepancies and better manage citizen concerns by bringing the administration closer to the people. It also aims to improve administrative efficiency by reassigning certain municipalities to adjacent administrative districts.
The Minister added that the project aims for a balanced and structured regional organization of administrative districts while strengthening the foundations of the involved municipalities. It also seeks to stimulate development dynamics to enhance economic, tourism, and cultural potential, strengthen effective local planning, and find efficient solutions to bolster specialized activity hubs, particularly those related to tourism, while improving the performance of delegated walis.
The Minister cited the Dar El Beïda administrative district in eastern Algiers as an example, noting that it encompasses more than 700,000 residents across seven municipalities. He stated that managing affairs at the district level has become increasingly difficult.
Concluding his response, the Minister stated that the workshop at the Ministry of Interior is currently addressing this situation, with results expected in the near future. He noted that the same procedure would be applied district by district to address citizen concerns and bring the administration closer to them.
