Amoura provides clarification

Algerian national team player Mohamed Amine Amoura posted a clarification via a story on his official Instagram account regarding the celebration of the victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which had sparked significant controversy.

The Algerian international stated that the match against Congo was a major one, highly intense, and filled with tension and emotion on the pitch.

He added, “I was not aware of what the person or symbol in the stands represented; I only wanted to joke in a friendly manner, without any ill intent or desire to provoke anyone.”

Amoura expressed his respect for the Congolese national team and its players, saying, “I wish them all the best and hope they qualify for the World Cup.”

The player also offered an apology, stating, “If my actions were misunderstood, I am sincerely sorry, as that was not my intention at all.”

The striker had faced criticism following a spontaneous gesture with fan Michel Koka, who has been portraying the revolutionary figure Patrice Lumumba throughout the DR Congo national team’s matches during the Africa Cup of Nations.
