Minister of Communication Zouheir Bouamama stated that his ministry has prepared a series of projects aimed at providing spaces and mechanisms that establish and strengthen the rights of journalists and their pivotal role in modern media.
During a study day at the ministry’s headquarters, the Minister explained that these projects include a draft executive decree regarding the basic statute for journalists and a draft executive decree specifying the conditions, procedures, and the entity responsible for granting the national professional journalist card. Additionally, there is a review of Presidential Decree No. 15-133, dated May 21, 2015, concerning the creation of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Professional Journalists. This review aims to encourage and promote media performance by revising the prize’s financial value, the conditions and procedures for awarding it, and the categories eligible to participate in the competition.
The Minister emphasized that the starting point and objective of the ministry’s efforts are to enforce respect for the rights of media authors and to harness communication tools and the efforts of all journalists to contribute to spreading awareness and introducing copyright in various specialties, arts, and sciences.
He added that journalists are also tasked with defending national heritage, which has attracted the interest of both amateur and professional thieves due to its creative and aesthetic value that resists time. He noted that this heritage refutes attempts at misinformation with irrefutable evidence, asserting that such attempts will not undermine the civilizational legacy or the innovations of ancestors as long as they are documented, protected, and widely publicized.
Bouamama took the opportunity to praise the decision of the President of the Republic, who addressed a call to Algerian youth abroad living in difficult, fragile, and illegal situations. He noted that these individuals were led into error by people who imagined they could damage the state’s credibility by exploiting them against their country and using them as fuel for dirty hostile agendas and campaigns targeting the nation by those who have become known to everyone.
