U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed messages he received from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. Macron suggested holding a meeting in Paris following the Davos Economic Forum, in addition to inviting Trump for dinner in the French capital, according to screenshots posted by Trump on his platform, Truth Social.
According to the messages, Macron told Trump that both parties are “in full agreement regarding Syria and can achieve significant progress on the Iran file,” while also expressing his lack of understanding regarding the U.S. position on Greenland. Macron proposed holding a G7 meeting in Paris after Davos, with the possibility of inviting representatives from Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia on the sidelines of the meeting.
These developments come at a time when Trump has escalated his rhetoric regarding Greenland, linking his efforts to control it with his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and threatening to impose broad tariffs on European countries if an agreement is not reached to allow the United States to purchase the island.
