The Central Service for Combating Organized Crime (SCLCO) successfully dismantled the organizational structure of a criminal network specialized in organizing illegal migration trips last week.
According to a National Security statement, in-depth investigations conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecution led to the monitoring of the network’s activities and the identification of its members. They were subsequently arrested, and their plan to smuggle migrants from the shores of a coastal province was thwarted.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 18 organizers, including three African nationals. Authorities also seized and recovered four boats, three marine engines, marine equipment, a GPS device, field binoculars, and wireless communication devices, in addition to 14 vehicles and a sum of national currency totaling 570 million centimes.
The suspects were presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Bir Mourad Rais court.
