Demonstrations in Paris Condemning the Death of Mauritanian Migrant El Hassan Diarra

Thousands of protesters gathered in the French capital, Paris, following the death of Mauritanian migrant El Hassan Diarra during a violent detention by French police on January 14.

Protesters chanted slogans such as “The police are killing us” and held signs demanding “justice” amid official silence and a significant media blackout by French outlets.

Activists circulated video clips showing a police officer punching the victim while he lay unconscious on the ground, without any attempt to provide first aid.

Protests took place in Paris following the death of a Mauritanian migrant during his detention, with participants chanting slogans accusing the police of killing him.

Capital police had detained El Hassan Diarra on January 14 on charges of “resisting arrest, possession of a substance resembling cannabis, and forged administrative documents.”
