Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, was received on Monday in the capital, Niamey, by the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Niger, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.
According to a ministry statement, the meeting was attended from the Algerian side by the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, and the General Manager of Sonatrach International Petroleum Exploration and Production (SIPEX), Bouarara Cherif, along with officials from the ministry and diplomatic representatives from the Algerian embassy in Niamey.
During the meeting, which was attended by several members of the Nigerien government—including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, the Minister of Mines, the Minister of Energy, and the Minister of Petroleum—both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of hydrocarbons and mines, with a focus on the oil and gas industry.
The two parties also reviewed the latest developments in Sonatrach’s exploration and search project at the Kafra oil field in northern Niger. They discussed ways to enhance coordination, specifically between Sonatrach and the Nigerien National Petroleum Company (SONIDEP), to ensure the achievement of mutual objectives.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. Both sides emphasized the strategic importance of this project at regional, African, and international levels, highlighting its pivotal role in supporting the social and economic development of transit countries.
