Minister of State, Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, was received on Monday in the capital, Niamey, by the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Niger, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.
According to a ministry statement, the Algerian delegation included the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, and the Director General of Sonatrach International Petroleum Exploration and Production (SIPEX), Bouarara Cherif, along with ministry officials and diplomatic representatives from the Algerian embassy in Niamey.
During the meeting, which was attended by several members of the Nigerien government—including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Mines, Energy, and Petroleum—the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, with a focus on the oil and gas industry.
The parties also reviewed the latest developments regarding Sonatrach’s exploration and research project at the Kafra oil field in northern Niger. They discussed enhancing coordination between the Sonatrach Group and the Nigerien National Petroleum Company (SONIDEP) to ensure the achievement of mutual objectives.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. Both sides emphasized the strategic importance of this project at regional, African, and international levels, highlighting its pivotal role in supporting the social and economic development of transit countries.
