New updates regarding the unemployment grant

The sixth issue of the Official Gazette published Executive Decree No. 26-87, dated January 21, 2026, which amends and supplements Executive Decree No. 22-70 of 2022. This decree outlines the conditions and procedures for benefiting from the unemployment grant, its amount, and the obligations of its recipients.

According to the text of Article 2, registration must be validated every six months through the designated digital platform or by appearing before the relevant regional offices of the National Employment Agency at the beneficiary’s place of residence. Beneficiaries are also required to respond to summons from the National Employment Agency and must not refuse a single job offer that matches their qualifications.

In the same context, the article stipulates the necessity of actively seeking qualifying or certificate-based training. Beneficiaries directed toward training will continue to receive the unemployment grant during the training period in accordance with the provisions of this decree.

Article 7, as part of the amendments to Article 2, sets the unemployment grant at 18,000 DZD, paid monthly for a period of one year, renewable only once. Beneficiaries are entitled to in-kind benefits under health insurance. The state is responsible for the social security contribution, set at 7 percent of the grant amount, as well as the costs of social coverage for health insurance.

Article 2 also indicates that the renewal of the unemployment grant is subject to strict compliance with obligations. The grant is paid for an additional year to beneficiaries active within the system whose seniority is less than 24 months, after completing the remaining period of the grant benefit, up to a maximum of two years.

Furthermore, the National Employment Agency is required to identify first-time job seekers in an updated national database to ensure they are directed with flexibility and transparency.
