Yacine Walid Reassures Farmers

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Walid, confirmed that his ministry is prepared to support farmers in modernizing agricultural equipment. During the first meeting of the National Scientific Council for Food Security held on Tuesday at the National Chamber of Agriculture in Mohammadia, he revealed significant losses in some crops related to mechanization.

In this context, the Minister stated: “Significant losses in agricultural production are linked to mechanization, or what are known as post-harvest losses.” He added that various products experience very significant losses, ranging between 20% and 30% in some sectors.

The Minister of Agriculture recalled that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized the importance of modernizing mechanization, confirming that his sector is ready to accompany and support farmers in this field. “As a ministry, we are ready to support all farmers in modernizing mechanization while taking into account the opinions of experts in this field,” he continued.

Furthermore, Yacine Walid stressed that the sector’s new strategy is based on the approach that “every dinar spent must have a real impact on production.” He explained: “Among the set goals is the formulation of effective government policies, meaning that every dinar spent must return with a real impact on production.”

On Monday, January 19, 2026, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a working meeting dedicated to agricultural mechanization. In this regard, the President decided to establish cooperatives specialized in renting all types of agricultural equipment to farmers, with the aim of expanding cultivated land and increasing national agricultural production yield.

During the same meeting, President Tebboune also decided to create a National Council for Agricultural Mechanization.
