Strengthening Algeria-Serbia Ties: New Exhibit Honors Algerian Revolution

In a significant step towards deepening Algeria-Serbia relations, Algerian Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, El Aid Rabieqa, met with Serbian writer and legal expert, Viktor Lazitch, discussing ways to bolster ties, particularly in scientific and academic fields. Highlighting the historic “unique and special” relationship between the two nations, Rabieqa reminisced about the steadfast and strong support of the late Yugoslavian President, Josip Tito, towards the Algerian Revolution. Rabieqa pointed out the “important steps” being taken in enhancing cooperation between Algeria and Serbia. He highlighted Serbia’s role as the first European country to recognize the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic and support the revolution through political, diplomatic, material means, and arms. The Minister expressed hope for immortalizing the revolution’s legacy and its friends through scholarly and academic works.

Lazitch affirmed his profound respect for Algerian history and his country’s aspirations to strengthen relations with Algeria, expressing hope for an expanded and stronger future relationship. He revealed plans for a new book titled “The Algerian Revolution in Serbian Press”, to be published in early 2024, which he described as a significant resource for historians and those interested in the Algerian Revolution. Additionally, Lazitch announced the establishment of a permanent exhibit dedicated to the Algerian Revolution in the Book Museum he manages in Belgrade.

This initiative marks a new chapter in Algeria-Serbia relations, emphasizing the enduring influence of the Algerian Revolution in international history and the shared commitment of both nations to foster a stronger partnership.
