Algerian Football Team Begins Preparations for Africa Cup of Nations 2023 at Sidi Moussa

The Algerian national football team starts its preparations today for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2023. The first group of approximately 10 players is expected to arrive at the Sidi Moussa Technical Center in Algiers, as reported by the Algerian News Agency. This marks the beginning of the first phase of preparations for the prestigious continental championship scheduled in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024. Three players, namely defenders Youcef Atal and Islam Slimani, and forward Youcef Belaili, have already been at the Sidi Moussa center for a few days, undergoing a special training program. Other players will join progressively in Algiers starting from Wednesday until December 31. The team captain, Riyad Mahrez, is expected to arrive next Saturday after playing a match with his club in the Saudi championship on Friday night.

Defenders Rayan Aït Nouri and Yasser Larouci are likely to be the last to join the training camp at Sidi Moussa due to their commitments in the English Premier League’s 20th round matches.

It’s noteworthy that the national team will fly to the Togolese capital, Lomé, on January 1, 2024, for a pre-competition camp. This camp will include friendly matches against Togo on Friday, January 5, and Burundi on Tuesday, January 9.

The team will then move to Bouaké, Ivory Coast, which will host all of Algeria’s group-stage matches. The “Desert Warriors” kick off their campaign on Monday, January 15, against Angola at the Peace Stadium at 21:00 local time. This is followed by matches against Burkina Faso on Saturday, January 20, at 15:00 and Mauritania on Tuesday, January 23, also at 15:00.
