Presidential Pardon on the Occasion of Eid al-Fitr

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed two presidential decrees on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Fitr, granting a presidential pardon. According to the Presidency of the Republic, the first decree pertains to common law crimes, under which 5,600 individuals—both incarcerated and non-incarcerated with final sentences—will benefit from a full pardon if their remaining sentence is 24 months or less.

The pardon decree excludes individuals convicted of crimes involving sabotage and terrorism, conspiracies against state authority and the integrity and unity of the national territory, corruption crimes, murder, and crimes of forming a criminal association or organized criminal group. It also excludes aggravated and qualified thefts, offenses related to automated data processing systems targeting national defense or public law bodies and institutions, drug-related crimes and illicit trafficking, smuggling, illegal speculation, fraud in the sale of goods, and adulteration of food and medical materials.

Furthermore, the pardon does not apply to crimes of discrimination and hate speech, neighborhood gang crimes, and certain serious offenses specified in the prison organization law. The second presidential decree concerns crimes related to public order, particularly cybercrimes, social media, and all related offenses.
