The president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Walid Sadi, said on Monday that he had not yet received a response to the complaint he filed with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the referee who officiated the match between the Algerian national team and its Burkinabé counterpart. Sadi stressed that the protest would not change the outcome of the match, but it was a warning to ensure fair refereeing in future matches.

In a statement to the press, Sadi clarified that there was no conspiracy, but that there was a failure on the part of the VAR referee, who was the main reason for the penalty not being awarded.

The incident occurred in the 65th minute of the match, when Algerian striker Islam Slimani was fouled in the penalty area by Burkinabé defender Steeve Yago. The referee did not call a penalty, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sadi said that the FAF had submitted clear evidence of the foul to CAF, including video footage and still images. He also said that the FAF had received support from other African football federations, who had expressed their concern about the incident.

The FAF’s complaint is the latest in a series of controversies involving VAR in African football. In recent years, there have been several instances of VAR referees making controversial decisions, which have led to accusations of bias and corruption.

Sadi’s statement reflects the frustration felt by many Algerian football fans, who believe that their team has been unfairly treated by referees in recent matches. The FAF’s protest is likely to add to the pressure on CAF to improve the standards of refereeing in Africa.tunesharemore_vertadd_photo_alternate
