The Minister of Finance, Louaïz Faïd, emphasized the significant role of Algerian customs in safeguarding the national economy and combating corruption in Algeria.

Speaking during the celebration of World Customs Day, Minister Faïd revealed that specific priorities have been outlined for each sector of the financial department. The Directorate General of Customs, in particular, focuses on the following objectives: improving the business environment, contributing to the support of the competitiveness of national economic institutions, securing customs revenues, protecting the territory and citizens, updating internal regulations, and accelerating digital transformation.

Faïd clarified that his ministry has worked on diversifying and enhancing means of protecting and promoting the national economy. This is aimed at creating a robust and sustainable economic growth, revitalizing and encouraging both national and foreign investment within a secure economic environment, thanks to various reforms initiated by the government.

Regarding this year’s theme adopted by the World Customs Organization, which emphasizes enhancing collaborative relationships through the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the customs institution and its various partners, Faïd affirmed the necessity of strengthening these cooperative ties given the existing professional relationships.

Minister Faïd also commended the tremendous efforts exerted by the customs apparatus, evident in the qualitative seizures achieved by operational teams nationwide in the fight against smuggling.
