Algeria’s Minister of Post, Telecommunications, and Digital Technologies issued a stern warning to mobile network operators on Wednesday, urging strict compliance with coverage standards and service quality requirements. He stressed that any proven shortcomings would be met with regulatory measures and penalties in accordance with applicable legislation.
The warning was delivered during a working meeting chaired by the minister with the president of the Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority, in the presence of representatives of the three mobile operators, as part of a periodic review of the state of telecommunications networks across the national territory.
The meeting focused on assessing progress in coverage along major road corridors, which serve as vital arteries for the national economy — particularly those with high volumes of passenger and freight traffic.
In this context, participants examined the coverage situation along the east–west highway following the expiry of previously set deadlines, and reviewed the results of field tests conducted by the regulatory authority to evaluate service quality and operators’ compliance with their legal and contractual obligations.
The minister also stressed the need to accelerate the pace of coverage improvements, calling for clear timelines to be set for expanding networks along strategic north–south corridors, with particular attention to roads that experience high traffic density.
