In a steadfast declaration at the United Nations in New York, Algerian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ammar Ben Jaafar, emphasized Algeria’s renewed commitment to advocate for full UN membership for the State of Palestine. This statement came following the US veto of an Algerian-drafted Security Council resolution aimed at recognizing Palestine as a UN member state.

Ambassador Ben Jaafar expressed that despite the veto, Algeria, with the backing of the General Assembly and broader support from UN members, will return “stronger and more vociferous”. He highlighted that the journey towards full membership for Palestine is only progressing, bolstered by the legitimate support of the international community.

The Ambassador appealed to those nations that withheld their support this time to reconsider their stance in future votes, stressing the overwhelming endorsement for Palestine’s statehood as a clear signal of its rightful place among the nations of the world.

He also echoed the sentiments of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirming that Algeria’s efforts will persist until Palestine is accorded full membership status at the United Nations. Ambassador Ben Jaafar conveyed profound gratitude on behalf of the Arab Group, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement to all nations that voted in favor of the resolution presented by Algeria.
