Algeria is participating in the 38th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair, ongoing until April 28th at the Palais des Expositions du Kram in Tunis, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts. The Algerian National Institution for Printing Arts is represented with a booth showcasing over 650 titles across various cultural, literary, and intellectual disciplines from approximately 24 Algerian publishing houses. These works include historical, literary, philosophical, heritage, luxury books, and children’s books, reflecting the diverse manifestations of Algerian culture and heritage.

This year’s edition of the Tunis International Book Fair, attended by 314 publishers from 25 countries, is themed “Solidarity with the Palestinian People.” This theme is in response to the ongoing Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip since last October, which has resulted in over 34,000 Palestinian deaths and widespread devastation.

The choice of Palestine as the theme is aimed at condemning the occupation’s crimes and breaking the intellectual siege, as it involves a battle for cultural existence, according to the organizing committee. The preservation of cultural heritage is at the heart of this conflict, as reported by the Tunisian press.

The tribute to Palestine includes dialogues focused on Palestinian identity, resistance, Zionist genocide crimes, and literary and intellectual commitment, with participation from Palestinian intellectuals, including philosopher Ahmed Barqawi and writer Adania Shibli.

The 38th edition also sees participation from intellectuals and writers from Tunisia, Italy (the guest of honor), Argentina, Yemen, Mauritania, China, and Kuwait, including Algerian novelist Wasini al-Araj. Algeria was previously the guest of honor at the 34th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair in 2018.
