The Algerian national football team for players under 17 years of age drew 1-1 with their Tunisian counterparts in a match held at Salem M’bruki Stadium in Rouiba, Algiers, as part of the third day of the North African Football Union tournament. This event, featuring players born between 2007 and 2008, is taking place in Algeria from April 18 to 26.

The Algerian team, known as “Les Verts,” opened the scoring through Abdeljalil Mansouri in the 4th minute. However, the Tunisian team, referred to as the “Carthage Eagles,” equalized in the 80th minute through Mohamed Boussalem. Algerian coach Aziz Lahoussini’s team could have clinched a victory had Youssef Imrani not missed a penalty in the 24th minute.

Following this result, the Algerian team is currently third in the standings with two points, ahead of Tunisia on goal difference. Earlier in the day, the Libyan and Moroccan teams also drew 1-1 at the same venue. The Libyan team scored first through Send Hussein Ben Daw in the 11th minute, with Morocco equalizing through Mohamed Rashidi in the 65th minute.

The Egyptian team was exempt from this round of matches. In the upcoming fourth round on Wednesday, April 24, the Algerian youths will face Libya at Omar Hamadi Stadium in Bologhine starting at 3:00 PM, while Morocco will play against Egypt at the same venue at 6:00 PM. The Tunisian team will rest as they are exempt from this round.

The Algerian team had previously drawn 1-1 with Morocco in their first match of the tournament at Rouiba Stadium. The last major competition the Algerian under-17 team participated in was the 2023 African Nations Cup, where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals, thus missing the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup held from November 10 to December 2, 2023, in Indonesia.

The team that ranks first at the end of the tournament will be crowned the champion.
