International Experts Visit Algeria to Boost Agricultural Innovation
A delegation of experts from the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture visited Algeria this week to explore ways of strengthening cooperation in agricultural innovation and technology.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Algeria’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, the delegation was received by ministry officials on Monday. Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, also attended the meeting.
The talks were held in preparation for the “AgriTech4Algeria” consultation workshop, which is scheduled to take place in Algiers in October. The event will target Algerian start-ups and business incubators specializing in agricultural technology and will be organized in cooperation with Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the visit, the delegation also travelled to the National Higher School of Agronomy, where it met with officials from the institution’s business incubator, start-up founders, and developers of innovative agricultural projects.
The experts later visited the headquarters of the public start-up accelerator Algeria Venture. They were briefed on the accelerator’s main activities and specialized support programmes and discussed opportunities for future cooperation and partnership in the agricultural technology sector.
The visit reflects Algeria’s growing interest in using innovation, scientific research, and start-up development to modernize agriculture and address challenges related to food security, climate change, and sustainable resource management.
By connecting international expertise with local universities, incubators, and emerging companies, the planned cooperation could support the development of new digital and technological solutions for Algerian agriculture.
The forthcoming AgriTech4Algeria workshop is expected to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building, and the identification of innovative projects capable of improving agricultural productivity and strengthening the country’s agri-food ecosystem.
