Algiers – During his participation in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum in Geneva (Switzerland), Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Karim Beibi Triki, outlined Algeria’s strategy for accelerating the development of its telecommunications infrastructure, according to a statement from the ministry.

In a discussion session, Mr. Beibi Triki highlighted “the key pillars of the strategy adopted by Algeria to accelerate the development of its telecommunications infrastructure to enhance digital inclusion and achieve equitable economic and social development, as reflected by the indicators recorded in recent years.”

He noted that “Algeria has worked to enable all its citizens to benefit equitably from the advantages offered by telecommunications and information technology by making this technology available to everyone, everywhere in its vast territory, at an affordable cost.”

He also emphasized that “the strong political will to generalize the dissemination of this technology formed the fundamental basis of the outlined strategy, from which emerged a periodically evaluated action plan, allowing for significant leaps in various indicators.”

Among the most important indicators, “the fixed internet access rate reached 65%, up from 40% at the beginning of 2020, in addition to the international bandwidth capacity which has increased more than sixfold during this period,” according to the same source.
