Mahrez Ignores Petković’s Calls

Algerian commentator for “beIN Sports,” Hafid Derradji, has revealed surprising details about the relationship between Riyad Mahrez and national coach Vladimir Petković. Derradji reported that Mahrez has ignored calls from his coach Petković, despite being included in the extended list that included all players who participated in the initial training camp.

In an article on “Al-Quds Al-Arabi” on Wednesday, Derradji stated that Mahrez did not communicate with Petković as previously agreed and did not respond to his call last week to discuss his intentions and readiness to join the team.

Derradji added that Mahrez will be absent from the June training camp by his own choice, along with Slimani, Feghouli, and Youcef Belaïli, who is still resolving his issue with Al Ahli Saudi FC.

According to Derradji, since his arrival, coach Petković has been willing to rely on Riyad Mahrez to bring fresh energy to the national team and accepted Mahrez’s excuse for not participating in the March training camp. However, it seems Petković is no longer willing to tolerate Mahrez’s silence and lack of response to his calls ahead of two crucial matches. Petković now feels justified, and even obligated, to exclude Mahrez from future national team selections and focus on building a game plan without him.
