French Tour Operators Plan 2027 Solar Eclipse Journeys to Algeria

The total solar eclipse scheduled for August 2, 2027, is already attracting significant attention from French travel agencies, which have begun organizing tours to Algeria. These specialized itineraries aim to combine the rare astronomical phenomenon with the exploration of Algeria's diverse historical sites and natural landscapes. Reservations have opened almost a year in advance, signaling an early interest in leveraging this unique event for tourism.

The eclipse's totality phase, lasting several minutes, will be observable in various Algerian regions, including the Hauts-Plateaux and areas bordering the Sahara. One prominent French agency, Tamera, specializing in adventure and cultural travel, is offering a 12-day trip starting July 28, 2027, priced from €3,290. This circuit begins in Constantine and includes visits to Djemila, Timgad, the Balcons du Ghoufi, and Bou Saâda, selected as the primary observation site due to its geographical position and favorable summer weather.

The itinerary also features Ben Srour, Kalaâ des Beni Hammad, Algiers, and Tipaza, blending cultural visits with landscape discovery. Another French operator, Nomade Aventure, presents a 10-day tour departing July 25, 2027, starting from €2,297. This journey will explore Algiers, Oran, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen, with Oran designated for observing the eclipse's totality, expected between 9:53 AM and 9:56 AM on August 2. These early commercial offerings underscore a growing interest among tour operators in astronomy as a compelling travel theme.

The combination of scientific observation, cultural exploration, and discovery of Algerian territories positions the country as an attractive destination for foreign visitors drawn by the 2027 total solar eclipse. This event is anticipated to draw a specialized segment of international tourists, enabling them to experience multiple regions of Algeria while witnessing the celestial spectacle.
