Algeria Elected to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee

Algeria has been unanimously elected to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee for the 2024-2028 term, representing the Arab group. This election took place during the tenth General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris on June 11, 2024, with representatives from 178 countries in attendance.

This international achievement reflects the global community’s trust in Algeria and the seriousness of its national policies in preserving and developing its rich intangible cultural heritage. Algeria’s election to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee is a recognition of its efforts in serving intangible cultural heritage and highlights the country’s leadership in the cultural heritage sector worldwide.

The election of Algeria to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee took place during the tenth General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. During this assembly, members of the intergovernmental committee for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage were elected for a four-year term.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee is one of UNESCO’s key committees. It was established in 2003 following the adoption of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in October of the same year.
