Sidi Abdallah Commissions 32,000 m³ Daily Water Purification Plant

A new wastewater purification plant was recently commissioned in the new city of Sidi Abdallah, Algiers, by Minister of Hydraulics Lounès Bouzegza. Located in the Sidi Bennour locality, west of the capital, the facility has a treatment capacity of 32,000 cubic meters per day. This capacity is designed to meet the needs of approximately 200,000 inhabitants and will manage wastewater from several communes within the region.

The commissioning of this plant is part of a broader strategy to enhance water management and promote the reuse of treated water. Minister Bouzegza emphasized the importance of optimal and rational exploitation of purification stations, particularly for irrigation and the maintenance of green spaces. Currently, Algiers' sanitation infrastructure produces nearly 600,000 cubic meters of treatable water daily, highlighting the potential for increased reuse across various sectors.

This development is complemented by ongoing water infrastructure projects across the capital. Work continues on a 10,000 cubic meter water reservoir in Zéralda, which is 98% complete and set to boost storage capacity and supply continuity. Additionally, a new purification plant project has been launched in El Hamiz, aimed at treating wastewater for Dar El Beïda and parts of Rouiba, Bordj El Kiffan, and Bordj El Bahri. These initiatives, alongside the significant contribution of desalination plants providing 62% of Algiers' daily water supply, aim to achieve a regular and daily water supply for all residents within 1 to 1.5 years.
